The Copenhagen Diagnosis
A group of leading climate scientists, including Scripps Oceanography climate researcher Richard Somerville,
issued a report in November 2009 that concludes scientists have underestimated the pace and extent of global warming. The report — titled "The Copenhagen Diagnosis" — documents key findings in climate change science since the
publication of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change
(IPCC) Fourth Assessment Report in 2007. The scientists found that global ice-sheets are melting at an increased rate, Arctic sea-ice is
disappearing much faster than recently projected, and future sea-level
rise is now expected to be much higher than previously forecast. Download the full report here.
Rutgers Initiative on Climate Change, Social Policy, and Politics
The Initiative on Climate Change, Social Policy, and Politics (CCSPP) functions to marshal the
resources of Rutgers University in the social sciences to address the challenges posed by global
warming, greenhouse gasses and the reduction of carbon emissions. Its mission is to conduct
research, education and public service to better understand how both state and national
political institutions can respond to these challenges.
