Soak up an entire week dedicated to sharks this summer at Birch
Aquarium at Scripps Institution of Oceanography, UC San Diego. SHARK
WEEK runs July 17-23 and features a week of hands-on exploration for
all ages into the world of these mesmerizing and misunderstood ocean
predators.
Meet local leopard sharks and their relatives. Discover why sharks are
vulnerable and must be protected. Explore how sharks use their teeth
the way humans use utensils. Learn from Scripps Oceanography scientists
about research discoveries and conservation efforts that may help
sustain declining shark populations.
SHARK WEEK activities run 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. daily and are included with Birch Aquarium at Scripps admission.
* Live shark encounters tied to hourly presentations about these amazing predators
* Dive shows in the two-story kelp forest tank with a special shark focus:
- Saturday, July 17, 2 p.m.
- Sunday, July 18, 10:30 a.m.
- Tuesday, July 20 12:30 p.m.
- Thursday, July 22, 12:30 p.m.
* More than 10 species of sharks and their relatives on display
* Shark scavenger hunts with a toothy prize
